Flexible Seating and Flexible Learning!

Help me give my students flexible seating options so they can be comfortable while learning anywhere in the classroom!

My Students

Located in our nation's capital, my Title I school serves the needs of a diverse community of students and families, particularly English language learners. In my current classroom, at least six different languages are spoken among all of my students, each of them equally beautiful and complex.

At the beginning of my year, it is difficult for my students to speak with one another because of the obvious language barriers but as a family, we develop a sense of vulnerability and safety, and together we learn to make mistakes and trust one another.

Through this process, I see my students begin to develop friendships, despite their inability to fully communicate through words. This is one of the most humbling, profound experiences to witness, and it cannot fairly be described by the limitations of my own language.

I am proud to serve my students and will continue to work with my families to improve the well being of all people in fair, respectful ways.

My Project

My students are hard workers. They love coming to school and engaging with rigorous content every single day. While my students are expanding the breadth and depth of their knowledge, their bodies are growing, too! It is vital for any teacher to take into account the physical needs of students in addition to their academic and social-emotional needs.

Students need to be able to move around, so it is crucial to have classroom seating arrangements that adapt to this need.

I am requesting several different types of flexible seating options for my students. Students will receive a set of colorful stools that are highly mobile and can be taken anywhere in our room. As well, I am asking for two exercise ball chairs with wheels so students can be comfortable while they work, and can move quickly around the room.

I know that these seating options will significantly improve attention, comfortability, and flexibility in the room. Please help my students get the seats that they need!
