Flexible Seating and Fidget Tools to Reach All Learners!
My students need flexible seating like balance balls, stools, Big Joe bean bag chairs, and Surf lap desks. They also need fidget tools like bands and balls to help them focus during the school day.
My students come from all walks of life. They look to school as a safe and comfortable place to learn and grow as individuals. My goal for each student is to be a positive member of our society. I want them to be confident and ready to take on the world.
Each year, the 5th grade students in my class are perseverant and dedicate themselves to learning as much as they can.
By the end of the year I am always sad to see them go, but proud of all they have accomplished! My hardworking students deserve a chance to be just as successful as students in districts with ample resources provided in all classrooms!
My Project
At our school we have found that using the Universal Design for Learning when planning lessons has the best impact on successful student learning. One of the principles of UDL focuses on student engagement.
The flexible seating options and fidget tools will greatly help my students engage in each lesson.
Introducing chair bands, balance balls, stools, and portable lap desks will allow students more comfortable seating options. Allowing students to choose appropriate fidget tools that help them focus, such as stress balls and stretchy toys will increase student driven engagement in lessons. Students will also be encouraged to play a more active role in their education by making goals for themselves and choosing appropriate tools to help them achieve those goals. I know these additional tools will help my students be more self aware and successful in the classroom!
