Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

Hi there! This project is so important to me and my students! It would give us a color printer in our classroom! This would change the game. At our school, there is one color printer for all of the teachers and staff to share! This makes it hard to consistently print in color, but it is very important for many scientific models and diagrams.

Many of my students are learning English as a second language.

They take my class, which is entirely in English. Can you imagine taking Chemistry in another language? It's so challenging! One of the ways I'm able to scaffold for these students is by providing pictures and other visual representations of concepts. It has been extremely helpful for my students in connecting the concepts they are learning to their existing mental schema of the world they live in. Because color printer access is inconsistent, it is hard to consistently use this scaffold for my students.

In addition to a color printer for our space, we're hoping to get some flexible seating options. This includes a cozy corner with bean bag chairs and a rug and standing desks. We all need different things to learn, so these seating options will help me provide more options for my students in how they learn.
