Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My fifth grade scholars love to learn and are eager to take on challenges! As 21st century learners, I strive to provide them with experiences that can broaden their horizons and allow them to see their own potential.
Our small town school sits in a low income neighborhood and many of my students come from socioeconomically disadvantaged families.
Some students have never been outside the city. Their lack of experience drives me further to seek ways to allow them to experience the world around them. Their creativity needs to be fed with engaging activities that will build social skills as well as lifelong lessons in originality and perseverance.
My Project
My students need different styles of seating to engage in their work during independent workstations. I'm requesting Flex-Space Big Beanbag Seats and Balance Ball Chairs that will help keep students focused on their task, as well as engage them in a fun motivating setting. The chairs can be used for different reading and writing activities around the classroom.
For the library I am asking for Nonfiction Extra Book Sets, Levels Q - V.
Students will be able to access these book sets anywhere they choose when they set up their mobile workstations in the classroom.
Flexible workstations are earned by students when they demonstrate responsibility and accountability for their work. Students will treat the flexible seating as a privilege when their required classwork is done. This teaches students to work hard and be diligent in order to earn flexible seating rewards.
The flexible seating chairs are earned and represent those students that meet classroom expectations. They are used as incentives to display responsibility in the classroom. They can also be used for "helper of the day", birthdays, or recognition chairs as a way to showcase and rewards students for their hard work.
