Imagine a class of twenty-seven second graders who are eager to fill their minds with knowledge.
In this class, there are over-achievers, people-pleasers, athletes, readers, and mathematicians. We also have a bunch of wiggly kiddos. It is hard trying to sit still all day. From tipping back in their chairs to being unfocused in the task, my students are telling me they need to move. All the movement breaks in the world won't help when they are supposed to be working in their seats. Our school is a Public Charter school with kids from all walks of life. What they need the most is the chance to all excel.
My Project
I am requesting Flex-Space Collaborative Floor Work Bundle from Lakeshore to help activate their brains. Research has shown that movement = learning; and boy, does second grade need movement. I have a few students who desperately need to move in their seats and these items will safely allow it. I also want to offer these tools to the other kids in my class who may need these items but are too shy to ask for help. These tools will help my students actively sit, concentrate, and not be a distraction to the other students around them.
