Flexible Learning in Math Class

Help me give my students access to technology in their math classroom! We use Chromebooks during our station rotation time, which gives extra opportunities for struggling students to get extra one on one help from their teacher.

My Students

These middle school students are really into math! They want to figure out tricky problems. One time, a student wrote himself a really complicated algebra problem on the whiteboard, and then solved it. His classmates were so impressed, they insisted we take a picture and frame it. It stayed on the wall all year! These 6th graders are just starting their math careers, and they are so thrilled to be in a stand-alone math class for the first time.

Now is the time to get them excited about math!

My Project

During station rotation time, students work with each other on collaborative problem solving tasks. They also work in small groups or one-on-one with an adult (usually the teacher). They also use Chromebooks to get extra practice on specific skills that we are working on in class, or to explore a new facet of a math idea. For example, we might use the Chromebooks to explore how mean and median change in a data set simulation. Or, with the 8th graders, we might explore how to fit a quadratic equation to a data set using regression analysis. We just need more access!
