Middle school students are faced with obstacles no other age group has seen before. From social media pressure to family dynamics to academic struggles. Our school is a Title I, where the majority of students qualify for free and reduced lunches. We see a great divide between affluent and struggling families. I want to provide my students with a level playing field academically.
All students should feel as though they are receiving the same education as their peers, regardless of what their family can provide them.
It is our job as public educators to make that a reality.
Students will gain access to a classroom that gives them space physically and mentally to expand their minds and share ideas with classmates. No more will they be restricted by a desk location. The desk can be where the student is when seated on the floor.
Students are more open to discussion and learning when in a flexible environment.
I want to encourage students to work together. I envision the carpet being a space where ideas are shared and thought is evoked. My goal is to unite students from different backgrounds and encourage them to work together to solve a shared problem.
