Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make choices that work best for them. Throughout this year, my students choose a variety of flexible seating I provided for them around our classroom, such as lowered tables with cushions on the floor, laying under tables on bench cushions with their clip boards, or laying flat on their bellies on the floor with a clip board. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them to complete tasks. I have noticed amazing differences in my students and the quality of their work when they are given a choice in their seating. They almost always make good choices about where they sit, are more engaged, and get more work completed.
My students are noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they are given a choice of comfortable and more home-like classroom furniture.
The ottomans with storage I selected will help give my students by seating options to make more effective learning choices. They can slide the ottoman stools up to their desks or activity tables. These will be extremely beneficial for some students that just need to get the wiggles out because they slide back-and-forth much more easily. These comfy cushioned seats will allow for additional comfortable floor seating while they collaborate with their peers. They are lightweight and can be easily used in many areas of the classroom.
In addition to the seats, I have added both Crayola and Mr. Sketch markers for me to write with more colors on the whiteboard and easel paper to catch my students attention during teacher-led instruction. (After all, I am competing with Tik Tok for their attention. I need to step up my posters and board lessons!)
