Ms. Hall from Columbus OH is requesting flexible seating through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
See what Ms. Hall is requestingMy students need the opportunity to have flexible seating in order to stay focused and enjoy learning. Cushions, stools, and balance balls will afford my students the opportunity to make their own wiggle seating choice.

The students at my public, charter primary school come from a variety of backgrounds. Many of them come from low socio-economic areas and at times are new to the country. At only six or seven years old, these students tend to be full of energy and sitting in a classroom, staying focused for a longer period of time becomes difficult for them. Having flexible seating that allows them to move in small ways that help them focus is my goal to keep their attention longer and make learning happen in my classroom.
It's been my experience that the way children learn doesn't depend on if they are sitting in a typical classroom chair looking at the teacher at all times, but rather if they are truly engaged in the material being presented and able to produce products that demonstrate their understanding; whether it's at a table, on the floor, standing up, swaying back and forth, etc.
These students truly love to learn and incorporating movement with the seating will surely focus their attention on tasks to be completed and doesn't confine them to a typical classroom chair.
Any of the following flexible seating options will allow my students to move/wiggle while still focusing on tasks at hand. My students will have the choice each day as to which seating they prefer and may use it throughout the day or switch if another is available. With having various and multiples of these seating options available, students will have the opportunity throughout the year to try them all out if they wish.
Being given the opportunity to sit in a more comfortable seat will help my students to focus on their learning because while learning they are able to move/wiggle.
The carry me floor cushions are easy to transport to a standard classroom chair for extra cushion or just to use to rest elbows on or to sit on while reading a book on the floor. The stability wobble cushions can aid students with back support in their seat, wiggling in their seat by sitting on the cushion or using it under their feet for movement. Students can use the balance ball at their table as an alternate seating option that gives them the ability to bounce a little while listening or moving back and forth while working. The plastic stack stools can be used for sitting higher at a table or by itself or even when pulled to the reading table for guided reading time.
