This was my first Donors Choose submission and I was so surprised and grateful at how quickly each of you came through to fully fund this project. It was my desire to provide my ELL students (from Haiti and Mexico) with books at (or slightly above) their current reading level so that they could continue their reading practice during the summer. \r\n\r\nI delivered a cute bag chock full of books to each student at their home on the last day of the school year. Students (and their siblings) were so excited to receive their bag and they loved looking through the books. Several immediately started to read one of the books that captured their attention. We had been learning about the butterfly life cycle this spring in our groups and we had caterpillars that hatched into 5 beautiful Painted Lady butterflies. Jeffrey, one of the students who received books, immediately chose the \"Flutter Butterfly\" book in his bag and read the whole thing as I was sitting there with his parents! \r\n\r\nAs the summer passed, I was curious to see if the students were reading their books and so I reached out to parents. Trevor had gone to Florida for the summer to be with his grandparents and uncle. His uncle told me that Trevor reads his books every day before he does other activities. Javier told me that he had already read each book five times and that his favorite book was \"Noodlehead Nightmares.\" And Jeffrey's parents have him read his books every day. \r\n\r\nHaving a strong foundation in reading sets the trajectory for a young person's life and your gifts this past May have contributed significantly to this aim. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I will be teaching each of these students again this coming school year and I'm so excited to help them continue on this journey.","fullyFundedDate":1778042193345,"projectUrl":"project/summer-books-for-english-language-learne/10211336/","projectTitle":"Summer Books for English Language Learners","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Johnson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10484073_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1777498182803","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10484073"},{"teacherId":8540300,"projectId":10120494,"letterContent":"am incredibly grateful for your generous support of our classroom project. My students developed a deeper understanding of how their everyday choices can impact the environment. They learned what materials can be recycled, why reducing waste matters, and how small actions—like using the correct bin—can make a meaningful difference. More importantly, they began to see themselves as problem-solvers who can help protect our planet.\r\n\r\nStudents practiced communicating important ideas in a clear and engaging way. Sharing their work around the school gave them a sense of pride and ownership, knowing their voices were being heard beyond the classroom.\r\n\r\nThe impact of this project extended throughout our school community. By placing student-created posters in hallways, classrooms, and common areas, the message of recycling became more visible and accessible to everyone. Students helped remind peers and staff to recycle correctly, contributing to a cleaner and more environmentally responsible school environment. This project fostered a sense of teamwork and shared responsibility, showing students that service can start small, but still create lasting change.","fullyFundedDate":1770399734249,"projectUrl":"project/community-service-and-protection/10063313/","projectTitle":"Community Service and Protection","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Sherman","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10214095_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1757035377779","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10214095"},{"teacherId":8540300,"projectId":9708491,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support of our classroom through DonorsChoose.
