This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school is a Title I school in Virginia Beach, VA that is mostly all low socioeconomic status and free or reduced lunch. Our school also served students in military families. My classroom is a 3rd grade class in part of a tri-campus where our school exclusively teaches 2nd and 3rd grade.
My 3rd graders love using white boards and I am trying to slowly get them dry erase group tables as an alternative work space to normal desks.
These third graders love dry erase surfaces and this would give me instant feedback on their learning as well as help with classroom behavior management.
My Project
I would like to help my students to have a modern classroom that emphasizes collaboration. Help me give my students a dry erase table that I can use to add a more flexible seating option to our room. I hope to eventually end up with one more of these tables, after this one, so that I can replace ALL of the desks in my classroom. This allows them to work better in groups and gives them more flexibility when doing activities such as brainstorming or manipulating numbers in math.
Collaboration is a very important tool to deepen the learning process.
Having this table will help my students to be able to collaborate and build on each others' ideas by writing directly on the tables with dry erase markers to respond to what they are learning.
