Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach English Language Learners who have to overcome many obstacles on a daily basis. My students already have a language barrier, and my job is to make their transition to a new school in a new country as comfortable as possible. Imagine if you all of a sudden moved to a new country without any knowledge of the culture and language—how would you feel? Lost? Afraid? Angry? Sad? Frustrated? Through it all, their resilience is inspiring, especially in this day and age.

My Project

Since all of my students come from other countries, they are already experiencing more than enough obstacles, such as, overcoming trauma, trying to learn a new language, adapting to a new culture, feeling safe at school, and making new friends. Therefore, having these flexible seating options will help my students find comfort at school, which is their second home, that way, they can focus solely on learning. By focusing on learning, my students will be able to show more academic growth and choose their own spaces to be successful. Flexible seating gives students independence which helps them continue to build their resilience.
