Mrs. Derrick from Clinton MS is requesting flexible seating through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
Help me give my students options for flexible seating in my classroom. This will allow my students a different option for sitting than a regular chair.

My school is in an urban area. My school contains the fourth and fifth grades in the district. There are about 430 students in fifth grade. My district has an 87% graduation rate. A little over 49% of the students receive free or reduced-price lunch. Fifth grade classes have three teachers. One teacher for math, one science, one ELA, and one teaches Computer Science. We are a 1:1 school district. We use computers in our classes on a daily basis. Our textbooks are online and the students have a hard copy of their textbook to take home. Students are assigned an iPad at the beginning of the year. The iPads are kept at school and are not taken home at this age. Any assignment written in class is typed before the student turns it in. The school offers strings for fifth grade students and six of my homeroom students participate.
My group of teachers teach students that have Individualized Education Plans.
We also teach a great number of students with accommodation plans for ADD, ADHD, Dyslexia, and/or Dysgraphia. I have to make may changes in the layout of my classroom, as well as, the way I teach.
I am interested in enhancing my students’ learning in my classroom through the use of wobble chairs. We, as teachers, expect students to sit still all day. This is even hard for a teacher to do. We cannot expect that of our students.
I have many students in my classroom who choose to sit on one leg or stand to do their work.
This is not a disruption and is fine as long as they are comfortable. I also enjoy when students are comfortable enough to sit or lie on the floor to do their work. I feel that wobble chairs will be a great resource for the students who have a difficult time sitting still or need to move a little bit.
Wobble chairs have been proven to help stimulate the minds of students. It will also help build their core muscles at the same time. When students sit on wobble chairs, both sides of their brains are engaged in keeping their bodies centered on the balls. And when the brain is stimulated, it's more focused on learning.
That is my goal as a teacher, have my students more focused on learning but have fun at the same time. If the wobble chairs are effete in helping them in the classroom, I feel I have succeeded.
