Our elementary school located in Tampa, Florida is a great school for students! My students are excited about learning and coming to school every day. In order to quench their desire to learn, I am continuously searching for innovative ways to meet the needs of my students. I have found my students learn best when they are engaged in meaningful activities that encourage them to use their communication and collaboration skills.
Flexible seating options would promote the collaboration and communication needed to keep my students engaged with their learning.
Students need to be comfortable in their learning environment--an uncomfortable student is typically unproductive and distracted. While I do have some flexible seating options for my students such as beanbag chairs and yoga ball chairs, that is not enough for all students to choose their seating. That is why I would like to bring more flexible seating options into my classroom.
Flexible learning environments have numerous benefits for my students. To begin with, the wobble chairs will provide movement for those students needing to wiggle, rock, and wobble. This movement provides oxygen to the brain which increases students' alertness and productivity. The ability to move while working is connected to increased learning as well as better focus and behavior.
Another benefit of a flexible learning environment is that it gives students the choice and control over their learning environment.
They can use the stools to move anywhere in the classroom to work, and the stools easily allow students to partner with others while working. I encourage my students to work with small groups and/or partners numerous times throughout the day, and the stools will really help with seating options that can be easily moved and repositioned as needed.
Flexible seating encourages students to find their best spot to be productive and engaged. All of the seating options in this project would benefit my students' learning needs.
