Help me give my students wobble stools and phonics centers to allow different seating options in the classroom and different options to learn major phonics skills taught in first grade.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
This is my seventh year teaching at a Title I school. My students come from different backgrounds and cultures in a low socioeconomic community. Every student at our school qualifies for free breakfast in the classroom and free lunch. These students spend most of their day in our classrooms and eat two out of their three meals of the day at our school. School is a place where these students can feel safe, nurtured and loved. Even though my students may face challenges every day, they always have a smile on their face.
My students are always excited to learn and develop their brains.
I want to continuously inspire them in their love of learning. In order to properly do this, I need to provide them with the necessary resources and support to reach their full potential.
My Project
Students today have many different learning needs, styles and preferences in order for them to be successful in the classroom. To help students understand their individual needs, they need to be able to take charge of their own learning. Giving students a sense of ownership and choice in their classroom environment can aid with these individual learning preferences.
Flexible seating gives students the opportunity to choose and create the optimal learning experience for themselves, which leads to a successful learning environment.
Having multiple options for learning major phonics skills taught in first grade will also promote an optimal learning experience for each student. They will be able to choose and explore different ways to learn their phonics skills and then learn which way works best for them as a learner. This also gives these students a sense of ownership in their learning.
