My Students

Flexibility is a major part of my classroom, not only does the staff have to remain flexible, so does the teaching environment.

I teach 12 amazing students who are kindergarten through second grade.

They are in a self contained special education classroom. Our classroom has 4 other terrific teachers to help support the students in their social and academic skills. My students love to be creative, play games, sing songs and have a desire to learn, even when it gets tough. We are a Title 1 school with a very large ESL population.

My Project

Individual desks will give the students a more versatile environment. They will have a place that is just for them, but they can work beside another student, in partnerships and in groups just by changing the layout of their desk. My students have difficulty with organization and independence, so the desks will allow for more responsibility to be in their hands. They will also be able to work in groups, but have the choice to move out of the group if they need a break, just by moving their desk. I have noticed that they need clear boundaries to understand what space is theirs and what space is a friends. The desks will help with their body placement in space, and hopefully this will be generalized to all areas of their day.

Your support will help my students understand what it is to be flexible.

It will also support their organizational skills and their independence. Learning these skills now will help them function better as they grow up and encounter more difficult tasks.
