Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach an autism special day class for grades 3rd through 5th in South Los Angeles. I have 12 students, 11 males, and 1 female. My students receive free or reduced-price lunches. My school is located in a high-poverty area. My students are high functioning and are eager to learn. They love coming to school and having opportunities to learn new information by using technology, playing games, and having classroom discussions. My students are very caring and have a passion for learning. Our classroom focuses on positive reinforcement and we are constantly praising and rewarding students as they demonstrate effort, compassion, following directions, and making gains.

My Project
Flexible seating will allow my students to make choices on where they can learn their best. Making my students comfortable and providing an inviting classroom environment is my main priority. Currently, students can choose to work on their desks, on pillows, beanbags, or on the floor. Students are using flexible seating during small group instruction and during independent reading time.
The selected products, a new sofa and coffee table, will provide my students with more options and give them a place to write comfortably.
My students are eager to learn and are always ready to try their best!
