This class is an incredibly diverse and strong community. Spending my days with them gives me such hope for our future. As we met for morning meetings and got to know each other, we became closer and are a family. They are a culturally and racially diverse crew of kids that have strong cultural identity and respect for the differences of each other. As the school year progresses I learn more and more and see their assets shine. They have inspired me to evolve my teaching to gamify my lessons and to have flexible seating (something I was fearful of for a while).
My Project
I have just started flexible learning time and flexible seating in my class. We wanted to get wobble stools, but we decided they were too costly, so we are opting for 8 bouncy balls to get our wiggles out. We also have several students who are shorter and would love a place to put their feet or some who just need to fidget with their feet so we are asking for the chair bands. Currently we are using chair bags to house our materials, so the plastic hanging shoe rack is for their supplies like markers and glue.
To innovate our class and allow even more choice, we want to use the sound proofing foam to adhere to cardboard partitions and refrigerator boxes to create quiet places to work and record with our computer.
