The new Ashley Productions Die-Cut Magnetic Foam Word Chunking pieces, tactile sandpaper letters, phonics game, and visual timer will allow us to create engaging, multisensory lessons where students can see, hear, touch, and manipulate language.\r\n\r\nWe will use the word chunking pieces and sandpaper letters to help students practice phonemic awareness, letter-sound correspondence, decoding, and word building. Students will be able to physically build and manipulate words, break words into smaller parts, and connect sounds to letters in a way that makes abstract reading concepts more concrete. The phonics game will provide an engaging way for students to practice skills repeatedly while building confidence. The visual timer will help students understand how much learning time remains, manage transitions, and stay focused during our small-group instruction.\r\n\r\nOne of the most rewarding moments will be watching students recognize that they can read a word that once seemed difficult. As students manipulate letters, blend sounds, build words, and celebrate small successes, they will begin to see themselves as capable readers. These moments of success can make a tremendous difference in their confidence and motivation.\r\n\r\nWith these resources, we will be able to provide more targeted, engaging, and individualized instruction while giving students the repeated practice they need to strengthen foundational reading skills. My students were excited when they saw the craft items and games. I used the game first with some second graders, who are learning English. The visuals with the game made it easy for them to point and have access to the game. I used sentence stems so they could learn the language and vocabulary in order to ask questions about who they were. \r\n\r\nWe made crafts which are little sticks with their own faces and clothing made out of tape. This allowed for creativity and allowed a talking stick to be used for students to practice their English. They have been involved from the beginning, starting with planning the design for our Little Free Library. The students had fun looking at the LFL location app and online photos for inspiration. There was so much collaboration as they worked in teams to create designs, make proposals to the whole group, and then determine the plan for their final design. The final design was a product of collaboration and compromise as they took elements of different proposals and came up with their final design. \r\n\r\nOnce the decorating supplies arrived, students carefully chose the stickers they wanted to use to decorate, laid them out to arrange them, and carefully applied all the stickers to the exterior of the Little Free Library. \r\n\r\nDue to timing, we have not yet been able to install our Little Free Library. We agreed with our administrators that it would be best to wait until the beginning of the school year to install and have a ribbon-cutting for the LFL so that expectations can be set and our new Student Council will be able to maintain it for the school year. The 3rd - 5th graders then went on to teach our 1st and 2nd graders how to play the games and how to have good sportsmanship. Some of our students went on to ask their families to buy some of the same games to play at home. \r\n\r\nWe hope to create a system where families can check out the board games to play at home and develop a love for playing board games and putting away the game console for a night or two. They love choosing a book, finding a comfortable place to sit, and settling in to read. I have seen students who were once hesitant about reading become more willing to pick up a book and give it a try. Watching them become excited about finding a book that interests them is one of the most rewarding parts of being their teacher.\r\nThe organized bookshelves and book bins have also made our classroom library more accessible. Students can independently browse, make choices, and find books that match their interests and reading abilities. For my students who need extra support, including my English language learners and those who may not yet see themselves as strong readers, this environment helps take away some of the pressure and allows them to build confidence at their own pace.\r\nMost importantly, this project has helped me create a classroom where my students feel that reading is something to enjoy—not just something they have to do.
