Flex Space for Financial Literacy

My Students

My students are elementary school students who go to a charter school which specializes in STEM learning. They have brilliant minds but may need to learn through different modalities. Hands-on activities make a difference in their motivation, their confidence, and their success. This NH school receives 1/3 of the funding as their neighborhood school. This creates an economic hardship for our school.

Our charter is for grades k-8.

Students come from 18 area towns to embrace the wonders of science, technology, engineering, and math.

My Project

Our students need flex space to accommodate social distancing in the classroom while learning about mathematics. They will learn financial literacy and basic math skills in the Special Education classroom. This flexible space will allow us to learn about numbers, mathematical functions, and spread out to use real time money. So many children are accustomed to seeing their parent swipe a card and do not learn about pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, and dollar bills. We want to prepare our students to learn basic math skills required to be successful and not being taken advantage of in the real world. They can use this table and chairs to work in a center for financial literacy.
