Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 6/7/8th grade band and orchestra south of Seattle where 80% of our students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. A majority of our students are bilingual and thrive while bringing different cultures into our music classroom. I strive to provide music education that everyone can access, understand, and enjoy.
We are a school that has only been established for one year and still need many materials to build our music program, especially now during Distance Learning.
My goal is to create a fun-filled, functioning, and equitable classroom for my students.
I am passionate and determined about providing these kids what they deserve in order to achieve success in the music classroom.
My Project
I have been doing lots of PD this summer about under represented composers, and the Eurocentric curriculum that takes over music education in America. Im excited to break the red tape and start including music from other cultures as well as music from under represented composers in the band and orchestra setting.
Please help me provide my students with flex band arrangements for distance learning that allow for more diverse and inclusive music education.
I am so excited to start incorporating flex band arrangements by composers that look like my students!!!
