This year, we were able to provide a science notebook to every student in need thanks to this project. Students are using their science notebooks daily to take notes, learn new vocabulary, and as a tool to help them through lab activities. Each student has pages full of observations and models to help them explain phenomena, and pages of scientific writing to defend their claims.\r\n\r\nWhen students heard that there were notebooks available, if they didn't have access to one on their own, there was a look of relief on many faces in my classroom. In our school, many families struggle to get basic school supplies and it often add stress to the beginning of the school year if they need to purchase a required material. The instrument adaptations, sensory tools, and cozy seating have allowed me to create a dedicated grounding corner where students can reset and regulate when they become overwhelmed.\r\n\r\nThe space includes noise-canceling headphones, sensory mats, color-changing sequin materials, bean bag and floor chairs, bouncy chairs, and a tent-canopy with partitions. It has been incredibly successful as a reset space. Students can take a short break, use the sensory supports they need, and return to class ready to learn.\r\n\r\nThe instrument adaptations, such as the Uke Chord Buddy, also help students with different learning needs participate more independently in music-making.
