Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from a variety of diverse backgrounds. I have second-language learners, native English speakers, autistic students, struggling readers, avid readers, ADD and ADHD students, and students from low and middle-class families.
At my school, we believe in "no excuses!" My students know that wherever they come from has little bearing on where they're going.
It is up to them and the choices they make to help them succeed. We have high academic and behavior expectations and they rise to meet the challenges set before them.
My Project
The hot, fun activity that's gaining popularity around the country right now is escape rooms. I'd like to create an escape room activity where the students use math, reading, and logic to solve the combinations and unlock fun prizes and activities.
This will be an opportunity for all of my students to engage in some fun out-of-the-box type thinking activities.
I would love for them to use the locks as part of a math exploration that can easily be changed depending on the math lessons we are working on in class.
The flashlights will be used to engage students in reading in the dark on Fridays, hence the term Flashlight Fridays! This is used as an incentive to encourage readers of all skill levels to focus on a book and fall in love with reading.
