Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Remember leaving your work in your friend's locker, and not being able to find it when it was due? In 2010, the student equivalent to this is sharing flash drives.
Our school is an urban, Title 1 school, with a larger percentage of students receiving free or reduced meals.
The students for whom the flash drives are requested have been selected as part of a Media Academy, in which they will use project- and technology-based learning to access a highly rigorous curriculum. Our goal is that by the end of their senior year, they are prepare to enter the collegiate or professional realms, and this requires some organizational skills that include being able to store, organize and immediately access digital files of their work. The flash drives will be issued to students, and will be used for all of their content classes, and will be the central device on which they save the work they compile for a digital portfolio of their progress.
My Project
Issuing each senior a flash drive will eliminate the frantic moment of trying to remember where everything is. Having their work in one place will allow for immediate, efficient access. Small enough to fit easily into a pocket, and with enough surface area to mark it as their own, these flash drives are a fast, simple way to bring our students fully into the digital age.
Senior year is a high-stress time for any student.
Between curriculum, culminating projects, college applications and preparing for a new step in life, students in their senior year are facing enormous changes and challenges. For students who have to prioritize each dollar they spend, a flash drive may not be an expense they can take on in September. Providing drives for each student eliminates personal and academic stress, and prepares them for success.
