Fitzhugh Store Stock-Up for A New Year

My Project

In my middle school math classroom, I have a Fitzhugh store that my kids can visit to shop. They earn Fitzhugh bucks for doing good, on time work. They can use these Fitzhugh bucks to buy different items in the store. My math class store helps my middle schoolers learn real-life financial literacy skills in the math classroom.

I like to have a mixture of items that the kids can buy because they learn a lot about financial literacy and it's fun.

The kids learn about opportunity costs because every item cost different amounts and they have to decide whether to spend or save. Items also sell out, so they have to take a chance they will still be there. My Fitzhugh Bucks/class store has been a hit for years and the kids look forward to our class cash system. This project will bring gift cards to stores they can go visit with family. They can use the cards to buy something small on their own and it's not online. It really helps them learn how to manage their own money. I love that I can now have a class store for PBIS and I am lucky to have wonderful donors to help me stock it throughout the school year. Each child will be able to earn a gift card throughout the school year. The one set of cards is on paper, so it is less waste for our environment. I continue to teach the M in STEM so they have many doors open to them.
