This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My K-5th graders are on a physical education journey with me! In PE, I have been adding in new core movements, body strength, balance, more varied fitness components. We are very lucky to have PE 5 days a week, and they are always fired up to enter my gym. They are curious about the new things I have added in, and they seek improvement! My school is very unique on a larger scale level. It is a dual language school where the students are working on Spanish and English.

My Project

At my school, my K-5th grade students are very blessed to get Physical Education class 5 times a week. I love having the opportunity to help them focus on fitness related activities each and every day and see them progress as the year continues. I have added in some new fitness, body movements, balance components, yoga moves, etc.

Helping my students develop lifelong fitness, improving upon movement skills, trying new body movements is a huge goal in my gym.

I would love a calendar whiteboard to display in our gym to show what activities we are doing for the month. The students like to know what we will be working on, and it helps them visualize how the month will progress in PE. It will also help me be more organized in my teaching, and make it quicker to setup and take down for each day.

My students would also benefit from a separate whiteboard/corkboard for the gym. I really want to display visuals for them to see of the body movements we are working on, or yoga poses, stretches, etc. That way, when I cue the move with the pictures nearby it gives them a visual to help take it in and retain it. I think having a large combo board would add an amazing element to our gym and overall PE program. Fitness is a lifelong journey, and it is my job to help my students explore different ways to move and be more active. Visuals are powerful, and they will be able to see them when they are in gym for after school program or any other activities outside of PE.
