My Students
Many of my students live in low socioeconomic status.
My students range from ages 11-15.
Some live with both parents and others live with only one parent. Many of my students are being raised by other family members that are not their birth parents.
The Family Consumer Science classroom is an elective for our students that is designed as a place for students to show their creativity in the classroom and kitchen without the strict guidelines for a core classroom.
My Project
The tables in my Family Consumer Science Kitchen were ruined by rising water during Hurricane Harvey. We have had a difficulty finding replacement tables that will fit in our space.
The new laminate top tables will be perfect for my students to roll out their cookies on or prepared their menu for a food lab.
My specialty is baking therefore my kids are more exposed to those aspects in the kitchen.
I rarely have the discipline problems that some regular classroom teachers have because we are able to us math and reading skills in a different environment. The prospect of having a foods assignment versus a written assignment are always a win in the Family Consumer Science classroom and kitchen.
