Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My goal for this project is to create an organized and welcoming learning environment for my incoming first graders. My students are almost all second-language learners who come from low-income families.
I want their learning environment to make them feel safe, loved, and supported.
The items I requested will be used to create cooperative groups where students can work and learn together. Each child will have a colored dot at their spot, their own matching bin, and a personal container for their crayons. Their groups will be color-coded and they will have easy access to all materials. As young students who have not been in school for very long, they need all of the support I can give them to raise their confidence and create lifelong learners.
The writing items like the handwriting line stamps and the magnetic writing board will help them with letter formation and story writing skills. The math pop toys can be used for group work practice counting to 100. As for the pencil sharpener, it sharpens on its own so that it can be used by children and not get broken. The magnetic bookshelves will allow me to display the books I am reading and make them easily accessible to all students. All of these materials will help my classroom to run smoothly and efficiently.
