My days are blessed with the smiling faces of great, motivated kindergartners having their first school experience. Our schools is predominately low-income (100% of our students receive free lunch and breakfast) but it doesn't stop my nuggets (our class name for my students) from coming in everyday will the ability to be the best learner they can be!
My nuggets are constantly showing their eagerness to learn and dream big!
Our classroom consists of many different backgrounds, ethnicity, and learning abilities. We learn, first and foremost, how to work together. During this time we work in groups of 3 or 4 and engage in differentiated learning activities that require both peer to peer interaction and self-motivation. My students are engaged through many hands-on activities and through technology. Our school is located in an inner-city, urban neighborhood.
Literacy is huge is every classroom. My students love to express themselves through drawing. Especially my English Language Learners who are exploring our language.
Drawing is a child first form of written expression so they are naturally drawn to texts with illustrations.
All learners start their writing by drawing. By showing our students different forms of literature it opens their minds to all that we can create. In our class, students will use these comic readers to explore the details they can discover while reading. These books will help them to explore different decodable texts to strengthen their reading skills. These leveled texts will be a great addition to our beginning reader library!
