Our brand-new PreK center has just opened! Our school district in south Alabama has restructured, and all of our PreK classes are now in the same building! About 40% of our students receive free lunch. As the music teacher for two schools (PreK and K-6), I am able to see over 700 students every week.
All of my students deserve the same opportunities as those from more privileged backgrounds.
My students are curious, creative and excited about learning! Our school is a special place made up of lots of different backgrounds and life experiences. Students learn from each other and help each other out. I love to see how excited they are about learning!
My Project
Our Early Education Center is brand new this year! We get to build a new school together as its first staff. Right now, we don't have the resources that music programs in established schools have yet-we're starting from scratch.
Our PreK students will be so excited to learn about music with the First Steps in Music curriculum!
First Steps uses songs, rhymes, stories, and games to help children acquire developmentally appropriate music skills. These skills are important in building the foundation for music education, but they are also beneficial in just about every other area as well! Did you know that students who can keep a steady beat have increased reading skills?
In the future, we're hoping to add younger students. The First Steps in Music: Infants and Toddlers curriculum will be great for those students, as well as our special needs students. That way everyone can enjoy music class right where they are, no matter where that is! We want all of our students to have a fun and productive time during this crucial period of development.
