This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am the head coach of the FIRST Robotics Challenge team 3314, the Mechanical Mustangs. We are located in a suburban school district in northern NJ. We have a highly diverse school population, with over 20 different languages spoken at home. Our robotics team had an incredible 2022-23 season - we attended 5 competitions including 3 district events, winning two and being finalists in the third; qualified for and won the NJ/PA/DE District Championship event ranking #1 overall in the FIRST Mid-Atlantic District and #46 (out of 4500) in the World; seeded third in our division at worlds and we also won 4 different engineering awards throughout the season.

Robotics allows students to learn how to code, design, fabricate, and strategize; they gain incredible teamwork skills, learning how to collaborate with both adults and students.

They learn communication skills, documentation skills, and how to represent our town in a way that we are proud to be a Mechanical Mustang. This program has helped us to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers in our town.

The Mechanical Mustangs need a bunch of random supplies for our competition season. We need Wera Allen Key sets: each of the Allen keys are a different color, so it makes it easier to identify in the pit area. We need a set of SAE keys and We need red and blue gaffer tape to fix our bumpers in case of emergency. Finally, we need black Sharpie markers that are retractable so we don't worry about losing the caps and silver Sharpies because we use them to mark on the black hex shaft or draw on black fabric.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
