First Robotics Competition Team Looking for New Tools

Help me give my students tools to help build their First Robotics Competition robot.

Mr. Cox Burncoat High School

Worcester, MA Grades 9-12

My Students

My students are located in central Worcester, Massachusetts, an urban and diverse population across one of many inner-city schools. Currently, there are over forty different dialects spoken in the hallways at BHS. My students represent a wide array of different cultural and financial backgrounds. I believe school should be a place where we, as teachers, help better students learn how to better themselves.

Sometimes ‘school’ for many of my students, is a place to escape less-than-ideal home situations and even tougher unique personal issues.

That’s where Physics comes in. My students gain deeper understanding when they are enveloped in hands-on science. They get so excited to use and experiment with accurate and precise equipment! Please help my students with the chance to experience the type of equipment they would be using in college and possibly their future careers.

My Project

Every year, the First Robotics Competition team at the school builds a one hundred and twenty pound robot. The team is comprised of students from the school and before joining the team, many of them have never held a tool in their lives.

As part of the team, students learn how to use tools while building a robot.

The current tools are over fifteen years old and showing their age. These new tools will help the team work more efficiently. They will also be used to teach students more about mechanical design and manufacturing as they build a robot.
