First Graders Ready to Get Their Hands on Learning!
Help me give my students hands on manipulatives to reinforce concepts being taught day to day. Magnetic wipe boards would be a perfect companion to the mobile easel so the children can actively follow along during carpet-time lessons!
This group of students has been the most impacted by COVID-19. Their first year of schooling was cut short in 2020, then they went on to be in and out of school in 2021, and now they are getting their first semi-normal year of schooling since they started. Their experiences these last 3 years vary so much that I have students ranging from 3rd grade reading level to still learning letter names.
My Project
Each of these hands on materials can be used to reinforce concepts being taught daily. The math materials will allow children to problem solve on their own. Number lines, hundreds charts, and base ten blocks are crucial to teaching young learners about addition, subtraction and number sense.
If given the opportunity to use a mobile easel and individual student wipe boards, they will be utilized during daily, hands on, direct lessons where I can follow an “I do, we do, you do” format.
I hope to be able to engage all learners in a small group, individual, or whole group setting with these items.
Letter tiles will help my struggling readers with phoneme/grapheme awareness and will be utilized in whole group study of weekly words, small group reinforcement and remediation, and independent practice during word work centers.
