Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Many of my students are learning English as a second language. In the listening center, students are able to listen to books on tape. I want my students to have as much exposure to the language as possible while they are in the classroom. Going to the listening center is a vital part of that exposure. As a first grade teacher, I teach all subjects. We have books on tape that give exposure to phonics by teaching vowels and sounds. We also have books on tape that enrich students' experiences in science, social studies and math. P.S. 151 is in a low-income area and some parents are limited in the materials they can provide for their children. I would like to give them this additional exposure to the English language to increase their vocabulary, which is the beginning of academic excellence.
