I am the lucky teacher of 23 unique first graders. They come from many different backgrounds and experiences, but each child has at least one thing in common - they all love coming to school each morning.
"Leadership is the challenge to be something more than average." Leadership opportunities need to be available, taught, and practiced.
We start each morning with an emphasis on relationship building. During this time we share stories, sing songs, and greet one another with a smile and a cheer. These students are learning necessary skills such as the ability to collaborate and disagree politely. These skills pour over into our classroom lessons and on the playground. My students are becoming stronger leaders day by day.
Our school has a limited budget available for teachers to buy materials. I want my students to get the best possible education. I believe that a true love of learning starts in the early years. My goal is to inspire these first graders to create an even better and brighter future.
My Project
My students absolutely love cooking every Friday! My first project got us started, but we realize that there are a few more things we could use.
Cooking has been a great motivator to help my students stay focused for the week.
Everyone looks forward to Cooking Friday. To participate, students must follow our schools rules and be respectful, responsible, and kind. I love how easy it is to tie cooking into the curriculum as well.
To make my dream a reality, we can use a few more kitchen items. We need a blender for healthy smoothies, dressings, sauces, etc. We can use a crock pot to make soups and applesauce. We can use child knives for cutting items such as cheese and fruit. We need wooden spoons for stirring. The Safeway gift card will allow me funds to purchase the materials each week, as I have been paying them out of pocket. These items will provide me with everything needed to have a fully functioning cooking class!
