My Students

My students are amazing. The area is middle class with two parent households. Education is an important part life, along with extra curricular activities such as musical lessons, athletic practices, and dance recitals. Moms and Dads often volunteer in the classroom to help support student learning. Family is an important aspect of life and supporting one another in education is high.

Teaching these energetic and curious little people has a lot of perks and few struggles.

Every day my students have centers to rotate through while I work with small groups at the table. As with all First Grade students, there are varying levels of learners. The work hard in class and success in school is expected. I love working with these little people. I see so much growth from the beginning of the year through the end of the year.

My Project

Reading is the most valuable skill we can teach students. It is important for their present life and for their future. Students in first grade are just beginning to read independently and enjoy the words on the pages by creating images in their minds and formulating opinions about what they are reading.

Students need a variety of books in different genres, topics, and levels to meet the growing skills throughout First Grade.

We are requesting a variety of books for my students to enjoy reading at home to themselves and their family.

I want to instill the love of reading and learning through books. I want my students to view reading a book as a worthwhile choice. I want my students to have a designated space for the class library that provides them choices at varying levels for independent reading opportunities during the day. I want to provide choice for home reading as well. Part of my reading library is designated for home reading, too. Choice is key for any reading experience. These books will add to my students' reading experiences and increase their love of reading.
