Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The school I teach at is located in Santa Paula, CA. We serve a small community about fifteen minutes from the coast and one hour north of Los Angeles. All of the teachers at my school work hard to teach decoding, comprehension, fluency, and vocabulary.
92% of my students are English Language Learners and some come from migrant families who work in the local fields.
ALL of the students in my school qualify for free lunch. We are a Title 1 school.
My Project
My students will be engaged while reading books by Mo Willems in our classroom library, on their rockers, bean bags, laying on the rug, and at their desks.
My emerging readers are excited and eager to read all of the entertaining books by Mo Willems.
He is their favorite author. They adore all of this characters: Elephant & Piggie, Pigeon, Knuffle Bunny, Duckling, and Trixie etc. Currently, our school library only has one Piggie & Elephant book, two Pigeon books, and the first Knuffle Bunny book by Mo Willems.
When these books arrive, I know my students will be thrilled. I can't wait to see them reading these books around our classroom.
