Our small community school has approximately 450 students. In our small school we have adopted the Reader's Workshop framework.
In order to fully incorporate this into our classroom, students need a large variety of varied level texts.
Our teachers have been trained to assess and teach reading to students using this method.
Students are assessed on their reading ability and given texts that are appropriate at their independent level. Students are given time to read within the classroom and at home.
My Project
Text levels of C and D are the most common text level for beginning first graders.
These text leveled books will give beginning readers a variety of books to read independently and with small group instruction.
Students read through these beginning readers quickly. Having these books will allow me to teach basic reading strategies effectively and efficiently. Students will feel successful and build on their knowledge of word-attack skill so that they can build their foundation of strategies.
After first graders read these books they can be shared with the students within our school. Also, remedial students will be able to read these texts.
