Although I have been a teacher for 11 years, this is my first year teaching first grade. In order for my students to be successful I am in need of some grade appropriate classroom management pocket charts. In order to create name tags, literacy work station management boards, various items are needed.
Our school has very high expectations, and one way we encourage a positive community is by implementing "Fill Buckets." I teach first grade students, so the filling bucket concept really seems to have a positive impact on their success.
In order to fully implement this program, students are in need of buckets, pocket charts, and organizers so that they can have a visual of their success and positive behaviors. My first grade students are very energetic and eager to learn. They have caught on to the concept of filling and dipping in buckets very quickly, but I know that it would have an even bigger impact if they were to have their own buckets and materials. If they could actually visualize their very own bucket filling up, I believe it would be even more successful. Then they will have the opportunity to actually physically fill buckets, and I can just imagine their excitement, and perseverance to fill others buckets.
My Project
Students will be able to complete several activities/lessons with these materials. The first is the filling the buckets. Students have already been introduced to the book/concepts of filling/dipping buckets. So to further enhance this concept student would be able to physically fill their own, and other's buckets. Students will be able to utilize the 100's chart by recognizing the various number patterns. The various other pocket charts will be used for sentence strips to implement grammar curriculum, "I Can" statements, Calendar organization, among other uses. I am always looking for new ways to implement instruction and make it more fun for students. Students will now be able to be engaged throughout the instruction with the assistance of these pocket charts. Students will come up and display sentence strips, identify parts of speech, identify patterns, and more.
All of these projects will have a positive impact on behavior, and the students' education, especially in math and language arts.
I believe when students are able to actually seeing their own and other's buckets filling up, they will be even more eager to fill up buckets. When students "fill" another student's bucket they will also be filling their own. Now they won't only be able to feel filling buckets, but they will be able to see it.
