This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Help us get the things we need to have successful literacy centers! We are a new first grade class and we started out our year with very few supplies. Please help turn our new space into a fun and exciting learning environment!

We are a brand new first grade section of a wonderful urban public school.

Most of the students attended pre-K and kindergarten at our school, and the community of family members, teachers, and other school employees is very strong. Our school is primarily Hispanic and most of the students come from low-income families. We would really appreciate your help!

My Project

Magnetic letters, whisper phones, and audio books are invaluable resources for first grade literacy learning. There are so many great ways that magnetic letters can be used to promote literacy. Our new phonics program uses them in many of the recommended activities, but I do not have enough for my students. Whisper phones are a great way for students to be able to hear themselves read so they can tell if they are saying the words correctly. They speak into one side and their voice travels right to their ears. Audio books provide great opportunities for modeling fluency, which is so important for readers of all levels. I need to start a collection of high quality books on tape for our classroom listening center!

Since our room started off completely empty, we desperately need the supplies and equipment that most teachers accumulate gradually over many years.

The school helped us out as much as they could with books and furniture and I have put in every dime I can spare, but we really need your help in order to make our class a success!
