My students need hands on materials and books to bring our Space unit to life.
This project expired on October 4, 2009.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
Help me make first grade learning "Out of this World." I teach a large group of very curious first grade students. My class includes both regular education students as well as special needs students. After they learn to read they are anxious to "Read to Learn." This is a chance to do that in the classroom.
When my students enter first grade they are just beginning to read. In the beginning of the school year they are learning phonics, decoding and reading comprehension. After they become confident readers they are ready to move to high interest reading. One opportunity to encourage this type of reading is through science topics. The children love to read about outer space. These high interest books hold their interest and they are hungry to read on and on to learn whatever they can about each planet.
By purchasing the requested materials I will be able to buy sets of books about planets for my students to read. I will also be able to purchase puzzles and science kits to enhance the space unit. It is difficult to find science books that are written on a first grade level. By purchasing these books the children will be able to read information about various planets without getting frustration with the text and information. This will help them to be successful in he reading process.
Your donation will make a tremendous difference in my classroom for years to come. I will be using these high interest materials to allow my students to practice the reading skills that have been taught all year.
