I'll tell you about all the students I have - They like to read Dr. Seuss books for a laugh. I teach in the first grade, where reading is new, And for some kids, the books that they like are so few. The Dr. Seuss books are a favorite of theirs, And if you donate to us, you'll answer their prayers. We don't have much money, but boy, if we did, We'd buy a set of these books for each kid! We say what we mean, and we mean what we say, Reading's important to do every day!

In our class, we like to read Green Eggs and Ham, A story about a guy named Sam-I-Am. We like to read books about one fish or two, And the one about Horton who rescues a Who. We're short on supply of these books, so we share. It'd be really cool if we had some more there. We say what we mean, and we mean it for sure, Dr. Seuss rocks! We'd love to have more!

Bookstores are great - they have so much to choose from. If we got some more Seuss books, we'd be sure to use them. Excitement is crucial to keep a kids' interest, And we think that Dr. Seuss' books are the best. We meant what we said, and we said what we meant: First grade is for reading, one hundred percent!

First grade is a crucial time for children's development of reading skills. Success at this stage is directly related to success later in life. Most children love being read to, but learning to read independently is challenging and can result in a lack of interest. My students love books by Dr. Seuss, and they are always asking to read the few that we have in our classroom. One day during a moment of free time, they crowded around each other, eight little faces, to share the copy of Green Eggs and Ham that we had read earlier that day. I gave no instruction, no modeling, no directions to read together. Their love for Dr. Seuss and his magical way of writing was enough to spur them into a group reading session. It was a poignant moment that revealed how important it is for children to have books available that they LOVE. Your donation would provide my students with more of the books that they have come to cherish.
