Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I am fortunate enough to teach a wonderful group of first-graders at a Title I school. They deserve the best education and our current classroom does not have enough books to fill our classroom library. First graders are so enthusiastic and they can't wait to read. A single factor most associated with reading achievement is reading independently.

My students need nonfiction books and magazines that is engaging and high interest.

You can help make this happen with donations to purchase books and library supplies for our class library.

My Project

The scholastic readers are the best nonfiction text I have found for my students. They always engage my students with wonderful illustrations and engaging text. The text is relevant with our science and social studies objectives as well as teach reading skills. My students love to read them, and then take them to their families and share what they have learned.

These magazines are full of limitless possibilities.

From a village in Africa to the deepest ocean, these stories take students on incredible learning journeys without ever leaving the classroom. Social and Emotional Learning is embedded into every story, so students are always learning to empathize with others, maintain relationships, manage emotions and make responsible choices.
