This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our elementary school is a Model Elementary School in the city of Richmond. My students are motivated and excited about learning. I love that my students have a wide variety of backgrounds and are eager to engage in reading instruction. Our grade level affirmation is “Knowledge is Power” and my students seek this power each day with hard work and determination to succeed. My students’ most special time of the day is reading. We read in small group, whole group, to ourselves and with a friend so we need more books that provide opportunities for young readers to be successful.
My Project
Literacy is the foundation for success in all academic subjects and with these books, I will be able to provide appropriate text to tailor my instruction to meet the diverse needs of my students and the students across the grade level. The wide variety of titles will allow for increased opportunities during instruction and allow students to take a book home each night to read to their family and return the following day for further instruction and to be placed in their individual book box. Having ample opportunities for practice is essential to successful reading instruction. These books will be in the hands and hearts of young readers!
