My Project

First grade is an awesome grade. They are still little and are so very curious. One of the things that you have to do with these young learners is keep them entertained. I have came across a few items that I believe will peak my students interest and make first grade a little more productive.

My students love all things interactive.

One of the things my students love doing is sharpening pencils. However, my pencil sharpeners don't seem to keep up with them. The new ones that I am requesting are some that multiple teachers have recommended for young students. The student doesn't have to hold them so they come out sharp and the students won't be rough with them. They also come with little "eyes" on them so of course it will be a fun addition to our classroom.

Sharpeners are a necessity to any classroom. The other materials that I am wanting to add are the buttons and batteries. With these items I am going to create a letter and phonics review. There is this idea out there called the "High Five Letter Review". Essentially I will record my voice on the button saying the phonics skill. It will have a matching card that has the skill, the sound, and a picture using that skill. For example: ar, /ar/, barn.. I will say these things on the button. Before coming into the room the student will push the button and listen to the recording. They will then do the same thing independently. There will also be a high-five card for when they have completed the activity. This is a quick, but interactive way to ensure students are practicing the activity and reviewing previous skills.
