I teach 27 first graders including special needs children and English language learners.

I have 12 struggling readers this year. Although I have tried every trick I know (I know a lot after 20 years) they still have not yet learned all their sight words. Learning these words is at the heart of learning to read.

Watching my children react to technology is amazing to me. Children that are negative to almost all attempts from me to engage them, pay attention when given computers. I watched as one of my most difficult students went across the hall and used an app dedicated to sight words with another teacher. He was hooked and now I want to give him that opportunity in my class.

Giving one child the opportunity to learn to read opens up the whole world to them. Children that don't learn to read fluently by third grade are more likely to end up in prison or dropout. I want you to help me give more children the opportunity to succeed. Each child you help makes a huge difference.
