Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students have a lot of spunk! I want my classroom to be both a calming space where students' needs for safety and community are met and an exciting place where creativity and action are explored.
My students are curious, silly and creative young learners.
They are first graders, aged six and seven, in the bilingual program, at our school in San Francisco. All of my students speak Spanish at home. Some of them have lived in San Francisco their whole lives, and some have arrived here very recently. They are all developing literacy skills in their first language, while also using meaningful interactions across content and in play, to transition these skills to English.
My Project
These iPads will help me support digital and remote learning for my students. Since our school building has closed down in response to our current public health emergency, I have struggled to connect with many of my students.
Our district is unrolling many new digital learning tools and training us to provide opportunities for both social connection and academic instruction for our students.
Unfortunately, there's a big barrier. Most of my students do not have devices or internet connections at home.
These iPads and enhanced digital tools would help us work toward greater equity in our digital world and city.
