I teach in a public, first-grade classroom in a low-income area (over 75% on free or reduced lunch). My 6 and 7-year-olds are curious, creative, and enthusiastic about learning! They love any active, engaging project where they get to work together to find solutions. We use a variety of learning strategies to meet each of their needs and in addition to academic subjects, we teach them social and organizational skills to help them succeed.
We are like a family in our classroom and it's amazing how the kids support and challenge one another.
They love to help and are incredibly compassionate. They inspire me daily and it's such a joy to work with them!
We meet together daily on the carpet for whole-group instruction, calendar time, and to listen to stories read aloud. Although I have been borrowing a rug from a coworker, our class would love to have a comfy, colorful rug of our own!
As a teacher in a low-income area, I want to provide a warm, safe space for my students to learn.
I know having a defined space on the rug would help them focus and set them up for success! Plus it would make them feel special to have their own "space". Our funds have to be raised by November 1st, so I am hoping this will make an amazing Christmas present to the kids! Thank you so much for considering us!
