Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our high school houses a wide variety of unprivileged students. Many of these students are battling stressful situations such as homelessness and poverty. On top of this, most students are learning a brand new culture, as a majority are immigrants or refugees.

Adversity is something my students know all too well, but, with perseverance, they are able to exceed any goal they set.

Their music class is a place where they can leave their troubles at the door. It is a safe space where they can have fun and just be kids.

My Project

I work at a Title I school where a lot of the population is under the poverty line. For many of these students, the arts are what keeps them in school.

The students in choir haven’t been able to perform since March of 2020.

Their outlet for self-expression was gone in the blink of an eye. This year, our students will get to sing together and also perform in front of an audience. I want them to have the best concert they’ve ever had, and, to have that, we need this electric piano.

I know their hearts will be so full when singing together in the fall.
