This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Please help the 1st and 2nd graders in my school learn more about literature, math and science with Renaissance Learning. That's an online learning site used by our 3rd, 4th and 5th graders. I want our smaller kids to use the same great resource.
Our school has approximately 200 children in 1st and 2nd grade.
Over three fourths of these youngsters come from low-income families (as measured by participation in the free / reduced lunch program). Most are learning English as a second language. Our kids face many challenges, but they inspire us every day.
My Project
Renaissance Learning raises reading proficiency and increases children's consumption of literature, math and science texts. How does it do this? Very briefly, students read short texts and books on a variety of subjects, from stories to counting to biology. They then go to the Renaissance Learning website, where they take short quizzes on what they have read. When the children pass these quizzes, they receive points. If they gain enough points, they participate in Renaissance parties at the end of each month.
I would love to extend our Renaissance Learning subscription for another year.
This program is incredibly motivating to young children. Please help us enthuse our smallest students with a love of reading.
